This is one of the best examples for literary cafes in Vienna. Some of the most famous Austrian contemporary writers gathered here, and still do. The most well known was Thomas Bernhard, an icon in the Austrian literature world. He came here daily, met his friends, wrote his thoughts and discussed his polemic view on Vienna.
The inside here is the way it used to be for the last decades. 'Refurbishment' or redecoration is not something that will happen here soon, and it gives the cafe a real Viennese and nostalgic touch - the locals love it.
Try all the coffee specialities you want to try - they have everthing here. It is also good to have a small snack between meals (i.e. a soup, some sausages - try them with freshly grated horseradish and mustard - or some of the Local desserts (Mehlspeisen).
