Description

Explore the Heidi Horten Collection, a museum for Classical Modernism and contemporary art in the historic heart of Vienna. Admire the innovative and spectacular architecture of the museum, which turns the building into a total work of art. Before you enter the museum, explore the sculpture garden, which is located directly in front of the former Habsburg city palace. A special feature of the building is the ‘Tea Room’ on the first floor, which was designed by Markus Schinwald and Hans Kupelwieser as a combination of parlour and cabinet of curiosities. Treasures and valuable handicrafts from three centuries are presented in this classicist room. See the museum's permanent exhibition KLIMT ⇄ WARHOL, which shows icons of modern and contemporary art. It presents high-class paintings, drawings, and sculptures that touch the mind and heart. The exhibition display, which is architecturally and creatively unique, was designed by the renowned Austrian artist Markus Schinwald. See international masterpieces by Francis Bacon, Georg Baselitz, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marc Chagall, Kees van Dongen, Lyonel Feininger, Lucio Fontana, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Yves Klein, Gustav Klimt, Roy Lichtenstein, René Magritte, Franz Marc, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Emil Nolde, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, and many others. Experience these outstanding works up close and gain a comprehensive insight into the development of 20th-century art. Take advantage of the free Smartify audio guide, which offers you an informative and entertaining tour. Of course, you can also experience the permanent exhibition as part of a private guided tour or take part in a creative workshop in the museum studio. Be enchanted and inspired by the beauty and expressiveness of the unique works of art. Engage with multi-sensory works of art in order to sharpen your own awareness of space, time, light, sound, taste, and touch in the LIGHT SOUND SENSES exhibition. In this exhibition, you will be encouraged to experience a variety of sensory perceptions. You are invited to engage with multi-sensory works of art in order to sharpen your own awareness of space, time, light, sound, taste and touch. The aim of LIGHT SOUND SENSES is to take a scientific-critical, but also humorous and artistic-aesthetic look at sensory perceptions, to challenge them and to play with them. In the exhibition, visitors encounter the pioneer of light art László Moholy-Nagy or immersive light installations by Olafur Eliasson, Brigitte Kowanz and Siegrun Appelt. LIGHT SOUND SENSES enables a deeper understanding of the nature of light, sound and our five senses.
